ActionNotes for the iPad is out today

I love the idea of using the iPad as a notepad but the reality is that the built-in Notes app from Apple just doesn’t cut it.

Using a real life notepad it’s easy to quickly fill an A4 page with notes and highlight the important stuff by underlining it or putting a star next to it, but there is no way to do that it Apple’s app – you just end up with a whole lot of text that all looks the same… Not only that, but there’s no way to file or organise your notes after you’ve made them.

I looked at some of the other alternatives and found them to be fiddly to use with too many tools and modes or just plain ugly, so we decided to create ActionNotes to give users the beautiful note taking experience the iPad deserves.

As you can see from the pic above, the screen is divided into two columns – notes on the left and Action Points on the right.

Enter your notes on the left hand side (don’t worry the page gets longer to accomodate long notes).

You can move a note to a different colour-coded section by just tapping on the label icon and choosing a colour – and yes, you can rename the colours to be more meaningful to you.

Just like a real notepad, each section has it’s own divider page but this one’s a bit smarter. Each one acts as an index for it’s particular section with all the notes arranged by date with the most recent at the top.

ActionNotes also creates great looking emails. Rather than just sending a pdf of the screen like other note apps, ActionNotes creates beautifully formatted emails that are editable, either on your iPad before you send them or on a computer once they’ve been received…

ActionNotes is designed to be simple to use but, should you need it, a quick tap of the Help button pops up a transparent overlay reminding you exactly what does what.

Grab a copy today and let me know what you think.
